The Under 14 Boys tipped off a packed junior weekend of basketball with a huge win over Brentwood Fire on Saturday morning. Jaziah Mussington scored 27, while Anthony Lawicki’s five 3s led him to 24 points in support. Beresford James-Overrett also scored 15 in a great team performance.
A solid second half wasn’t enough for the Under 16 Boys as they went down 73-55 to Haringey Hawks. Kalen Gouldbourne top scored with 19, while Robbie Cruickshanks scored 14 and Matt Liddamore had 10.
Under 16 Girls beat Sussex 69-65 to begin what would be an outstanding weekend for the side that have started the season off in fine form. Cerys Leach scored 32 points, while Issy Roberts and Maia Wiseman had 14 and 11 respectively. Coach Kev Manning described the win as “huge”, a compliment to both his Ipswich side and the opposing Sussex side.
Sunday saw many of our junior sides in Cup action, with Ipswich U16 Boys suffering a disappointing loss in the cup on the road to West London Gators, losing 93-42. Also bowing out of the Cup were the Under 18 Men against Canterbury Crusaders, losing 83-71 despite 31 points from Charlie Smythe, 26 from Harrison Gregg and 11 from Femi Edu.
Lastly, the Under 16 Girls beat Nottingham Wildcats behind 41 points from certified bucket getter Cerys Leach (41), ably supported once more by Maia Wiseman (16) and DeAnna Carrington (14). 101-42 was the final score.
