Tyreese Perry-Huggins Commits to Collin College

Endeavour Ipswich Basketball Club and Ipswich Basketball Academy are delighted to announce that alumni forward Tyreese Perry-Huggins (class of 2024) has announced his commitment to Collin College on a full athletic scholarship.

Tyreese joined Copleston Sixth Form based Ipswich Basketball Academy in 2021, after starting his junior career in Coventry where COVID interrupted his basketball journey. Perry-Huggins follows in the footsteps of 2017 graduate Josh Apple in attending Collin College following his time at Copleston and IBA.

During his two years playing in Ipswich, Tyreese went from a relative unknown to one of the top prospects in the country, eventually being selected to play for the Great Britain u18 Men at the 2023 European Championships in Portugal. Perry-Huggins played a key role in helping the team finish an impressive 5th place at the tournament. His enormous growth as a player saw him also recruited to spend a year playing at Star Athletes Academy in Florida. Following a successful season Stateside, he was then selected to the prestigious Hoopsfix All Star Classic last month.

Tyreese was also part of a ‘Hoopsfix Select Squad’ that competed against NCAA Division One Eastern Washington University in August 2023, playing against former Copleston/Ipswich star Ethan Price, and alongside several products of the Ipswich programme and other top UK prospects.

During the 2022/2023 season, Basketball England featured Tyreese and his remarkable journey in a Basketball England story (https://www.basketballengland.co.uk/news/2023/eabl-dise-graduate-perry-huggins-on-copleston-learning-and-the-future/), shining a light on his enormous development while at Ipswich, highlighting the importance of being in the right programme for player development and progress – with Copleston and Ipswich continuing to be a shining example of players improvement being at the forefront of a successful academy career.

Academy Director, Nick Drane said of the announcement: "Tyreese is one the best young men we have had here at the academy. Both academically and as an athlete, He has applied himself, worked tremendously hard and been a pleasure to work with. I’ve said it from the first time we spoke, Tyreese is an impressive young man. He is mature, he has a huge heart and is a fantastic role model – I am very proud of him”.

Tyreese added "I want to thank all those who’ve supported me in my journey. My parents, family and friends along with my coaches.

Ipswich is a huge part of my success and setting me up for America, not only that but teaching me lessons for life. Coach Drane and Coach Manning have both supported me throughout my career so far and placed me in the right positions to develop.

Coach Leichener over at Star Athletes Academy/Lakeview Prep has given me the experience of a lifetime in Florida and honed my skills to succeed at the next level. I’m grateful to them all.

My time in the states has prepared me for their style of play and how to adapt to different ways of coaching. It’s an exciting time! I’m extremely blessed for this opportunity and I cannot wait to see where it takes me."
