Second annual Makenna Williams Memorial Game announced

Updated: Jul 2

We are delighted to announce the return of the Makenna Williams Memorial Game, taking place on Thursday 25th July!

Today marks the second anniversary of Makenna tragically passing away, and Endeavour Ipswich Basketball Club, our staff, players, volunteers and community will continue to honour Makenna's memory with what will be another amazing event.

Last year's debut memorial game saw a collection of IBC legends, current players and juniors show out to celebrate Makenna's life and fundraise to support our club in providing mental health support and training. This year we're hoping for much of the same, and are delighted to announce that EIBC Senior players and legends Harriet Welham and Lee Linton-Hodges will captain the two sides, which will be once again coached by Nick Drane and Kev Manning, the two coaches who oversaw much of Makenna's journey through the IBC programme.

Club Head Coach Nick Drane added: "We vowed that Ipswich Basketball Club would play our part in ensuring that Makenna will never be forgotten. No promise has ever been more important to keep. Last year's memorial game was a special occasion for everyone involved with our club, and most importantly for Makenna’s family. We were able to raise funds, and more importantly awareness of mental heath and the challenges many of us face. We have worked hard in providing training for our members to continue to raise that awareness and we will be doing even more in 2024/25. The clubs love for Makenna will live on forever”

This year's event will once again be held at Copleston Sports Centre, with a tip off time of 6.30pm, with a post-game reception at the Forge Kitchen for over 18s.

Further details about the rosters, structure of the evening and fundraisers will be announced over the coming weeks, but we can say with some certainty, having seen the list of players committed so far, that it is not going to be an event you want to miss! Add Thursday 25th July to your calendars!
