Endeavour Ipswich Basketball Club’s Senior Women’s team improved to 2-0 on the season with another dominant performance this time on the road to National Cup and last season’s WNBL D1 runners up, Thames Valley Cavaliers.
When the fixtures were released, facing the reigning league and playoff champions in the first game of the season, before travelling to TVC for the second game looked about as tough a start to the season as you could have imagined. But instead Ipswich find themselves sitting at the top of the WNBL standings (yes it’s only two games) having won well against two of the league’s most imposing teams.
Ipswich started hot and didn’t cool off until the third quarter, by which time the team had built an unlikely 23-point advantage. TVC, an experienced team with a number of high calibre players, battled valiantly and pulled the lead to within thirteen at one stage but after re-grouping, Ipswich re-established their dominance and extended the lead back up to beyond twenty.
The home side were led as always by Kat Goldsby and Helen Trailin, while Ipswich had a huge contribution off the bench from Liv Partridge and Louisa Gibbins, while the whole team played a major role in an excellent win. Harriet Welham again showed her class with an 18/16/11 triple double which will again have caught the eye of the rest of the league.
Ipswich went on to win the game 92-71 and now have a weekend off from league action whilst they host Division Two outfit UEA in the National Cup on Sunday at 1:30pm at Copleston.
