Endeavour Ipswich Basketball’s Senior Women’s team recorded their most impressive win of the season so far with a 75-66 win against rivals Anglia Ruskin University.
Ipswich were without Liv Partridge, who suffered a broken foot in last weekends National Cup win, and also Christabel Osarobo, who is also currently out – meaning the depth of this Ipswich squad would be tested against a notoriously difficult opponent.
Ipswich made the better start of the two teams in a closely contested first quarter and that would be the tale for much of this game, with Ipswich leading and ARU keeping things close, but never quite getting over the hump. Ipswich led by a single point after one, and extended that to five at half time, courtesy of a Liv Forster buzzer-beater. The Suffolk side again increased their advantage going into the game’s final stanza.
The fourth quarter saw Ipswich extend their lead as the atmosphere grew inside Copleston, before the experience of ARU shone through again, reducing the lead into single digits. Ipswich eventually closed the game out securing a 75-66 win.
Harriet Welham led the way for EIBC with a 23 point, 13 rebound double-double, while Liv Forster added 19 points and 6 assists and Yazmin Edwards, again in fine form, with 15 & 10.
“This was huge for us. With the loss of Liv and Chris, we knew we had to dig deep and ask some young players to step up, and they did exactly that. I thought our bench were awesome today, as was Louisa who stepped up massively, playing big minutes and really going to battle against some outstanding ARU players” said Nick Drane.
The team travel to Reading (2-1) next weekend, looking to extend their unbeaten start to the season.
