Ipswich Basketball Club’s Senior Women’s team moved to 11-3 on the season, beating the Reading Rockets on Saturday, keeping the pressure on pace setters Brent Bulls and CoLA Southwark Pride, as the season creeps towards the final third.

Ipswich now move into the coming weekend with a difficult trip to Manchester in the knowledge that a win sets them up for a showdown at Copleston against the playoff champions and current league leaders (CoLA) the following week. There is still a huge amount of basketball still to play this season, but Ipswich find themselves in what appears to be a three-horse race with eight games to play, but with one more loss on their record than Brent and CoLA.
The game itself was one-sided, with Reading, a perennial powerhouse in WNBL D1, experiencing an unusually difficult season. Ipswich were able to share minutes amongst the whole roster, with several of the teams’ younger players making the most of the extended playing time.
Harriet Welham led the team in scoring with 18 points to go with 15 rebounds. The captain was one of six Ipswich players in double-figures, joined by Louisa Gibbins, Maisie Keyes, Hannah Gray, Cerys Leach and sixteen year old Angel Whyte.
