Ipswich Basketball Club’s Senior Women’s team suffered their first defeat of the WNBL season with a 80-77 loss on the road to a very strong Thames Valley Cavaliers team.

TVC started the better of the two teams, opening an early double figure lead, however, Ipswich chipped away at the hosts advantage, eventually finding themselves one point ahead going into the half time break.

In the third, Ipswich began to show some real rhythm, quickly opening up a seven-point lead, forcing an early time out by Thames Valley. The game remained close throughout the rest of the game, until mid way through the fourth quarter. With the game in it’s final stages, Ipswich held a six point lead with three and a half minutes to play. However, the league champions went scoreless for the rest of the game, allowing TVC to steal the win in the closing moments.

“It’s a disappointing loss but it’s very early in the season and we essentially have a new group – so this will be a great learning experience” said Ipswich Head Coach Nick Drane.
