Endeavour Ipswich Basketball Club’s Senior Women moved to 7-1 in WNBL Division One (9-1 in all competitions) with an emphatic 107-58 win on the road at City of Birmingham Rockets on Saturday.
Ipswich dominated the first half, taking the opening frame 34-17 and the second 28-10. The 62-27 advantage meant the game was essentially over as a contest by half time. That being said, COB rallied in the third quarter, winning the period as they played with a point to prove, however normal service resumed in the fourth with the visitors taking the period 31-14, leading to a 49 point win for the Suffolk side.
Birmingham may well have had one eye on Sunday’s National Cup Quarter Final, when they were hosting Sheffield hatters – while Ipswich were looking to continue their impressive start to the season.
“I thought we were outstanding in the first half” said Nick Drane. “Birmingham are a good side and the score doesn’t do them justice – we came out all guns blazing and that set the table for the whole game. They are a well coached team and a great organisation and a great addition to this league”.
Ipswich were led by Harriet Welham’s 36 points (23 in the first half) while Liv Forster showed off her ever developing all-round game with 19 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists. Christabel Osarobo added 16 points and 11 rebounds while Louisa Gibbins was all over the boards, collecting a season high 17.
Ipswich host Barking Abbey (4-4) this coming weekend in a game that see’s the league leaders host one of the league’s in-form teams.
