Statement from the Ipswich Basketball Club Management Team:
By now, most members will be aware that last week Makenna Williams tragically passed away. Makenna played for the club for a number of years and was a member of the Basketball Academy at Copleston.
We know Makenna’s passing will be impacting many people in and around the club, and we want to make sure relevant support is signposted.
The attached document is from our County Council and provides links to online bereavement support services for both young people and adults. In addition, as a management team, we feel there is some helpful information for parents/ carers on the Young Minds website: https://www.youngminds.org.uk/parent/parents-a-z-mental-health-guide/grief-and-loss/
There are further support resources available through Wellbeing Suffolk: https://www.wellbeingnands.co.uk/suffolk/
The attached PDF below has a series of bereavement support helplines from Suffolk County Council available:
We would encourage children to speak with their parents / carers about how they are feeling. Any child who needs extra support can speak to staff at their school, all of whom will have some form of pastoral support and counselling provision.
At a later date we will provide more information in respect of remembrance of Makenna, and we will do this in coordination with her family.
