Adam Robinson Appointed Senior Men Head Coach

Ipswich Basketball Club is delighted to announce the appointment of Adam Robinson to the position of Senior Men’s Head Coach.

Coach Robinson replaces outgoing Head Coach John Ellis, who departs after two seasons as the play-caller for the high-profile Senior Men’s team. Coach Robinson has been with the programme for a number of years, working his way up through the coaching ranks from assistant coach, to junior Head Coach. Adam has also been doing stellar work with the club’s academy both as the Head of Sports Science, in his capacity as lead Strength and Conditioning Coach, and as the assistant coach with the EABL team.

Coach Robinson led the U16 Boys to the Final Fours in 2018, many of whom now play for Ipswich Senior Men and Academy

The spine of the senior team, as always, will be made up by the leading academy players, making Coach Robinson the logical choice as Head Coach for the Senior Men, as he works with these players on a daily basis.

Despite their struggles this past season, the team still managed to qualify for the Patrons Cup Final, and continue to be one of the higher profile National League teams on account of their reputation for being a professionally run, well-resourced programme. The team will again compete in National League Division Two, with the league being expanded into a two division North and South competition.

Head Coach Nick Drane had this to say about Coach Robinson’s appointment “Adam is a very talented and ambitious coach, and this is a great opportunity for him and the club. I have no doubt that with Adam in charge, we can re-establish ourselves as a dominant team at the Division Two level. I also believe this will breath some new life into the men’s set-up and we can get that buzz back around the team, both on and off the court”.

After being appointed to the position Coach Robinson said “This is a huge honour and a great challenge for me as a coach. The Ipswich Men’s team has a great tradition and I’m excited to lead them. We will be a very young but extremely talented group and building on that young talent will be at the forefront of what we aim to achieve this coming season. I’m excited”.

Ipswich are holding open trials for both their Senior Teams on Saturday the 8th June. Senior Women 1-3pm, and Senior Men 3-5pm at Copleston Sports Centre.

The Senior Women will again compete in WNBL Division One and the Men will again be in NBL Division Two.

Further information regarding the Senior trials can be gained by contacting Club Head Coach Nick Drane via e-mail (nickdrane@ipswichbasketball.co.uk)
