The 2021 Ipswich Basketball Club Golf Day was another huge success with over 60 intrepid golfers turning out and braving some testing weather at Brett Vale Golf Club on Friday.
Early-morning sunshine didn’t last long and the last few groups to head out were rained on almost all the way around the Raydon course, but to their immense credit all entrants made it to the end of the 18th.
The eventual winners were Fallen Angels, consisting of Paul Unsworth, M.J. Keeble, Geoff Brock and Dave Presland. The victorious quartet win a fourball voucher for Brett Vale kindly donated by the event’s hosts. The Angels racked up an impressive 94 Stableford points, followed in by Maths Wizards (91) and The Glory Holes (89).
It was a great day for Paul Unsworth, who also scooped the cash prize in the 150 Club and two raffle prizes, while Dan Lynch of Maths Wizards hit the Longest Drive of the day and IBC Under-18 Ethan Tucker won the Closest-the-Pin competition. Borderline scratch golfer Andrew Underwood, who hit the only eagle of the day, perhaps fittingly won the Birdies Competition draw.
“Now that I am out of the rain, I can appreciate what a fantastic day this has been for the club,” said IBC Vice Chair Rob Schatten. “We can’t say thank-you enough for everyone’s support today, the weather forecast was never looking great but not a single team dropped out, which is to their complete credit.
“Events like this are critical to IBC’s funding and the last couple of years we’ve had spectacular turnouts for events still being held under restrictions from Covid-19. For over 60 golfers to show up, spend their cash in our competitions and prize draws, and hopefully enjoy a walk around this excellent golf course, means a great deal to us as a club.
“I’d like to say huge thank-you to everyone at Brett Vale for helping us arrange today and for being such accommodating hosts. Also, thanks to Hintlesham, Fynn Valley, Ufford Park and Lexden Wood Golf Clubs for donating golf vouchers, and to Pin High Golf in Ipswich for prize support. Several individuals donated raffle prizes or their time on the day to help run the event – thanks to you, we couldn’t have done this without you!”
